Contrition

A decree of contrition is a formal acknowledgement by the Conciliatory Board in the Theban Tribunal that a polites has attempted to make amends (usually by the offer of reparations, only accepted if the decree is issued) for a former misdeed that led to the granting of shards. It is described in The Sundered Eagle 28, 32 and is important as it allows the polites to potentially escape being subject to a Vote of Ostracism. Polities may also of course negate shards by use of tokens. The decree of contrition must be heard during the Hermetic Assembly phase of the Tribunal gathering.
