Volkhvy
Volkhvy (singular, volkhv) are pagan priests, the spiritual leaders of the Slavic people -- at least, of those who have not yet converted to Christianity. In Ars Magica, the volkhvy are faerie wizards[1] who inhabit the Novgorod Tribunal. The name "volkhvy" is Russian, but similar priests, known by different names, exist in other Slavic lands.[2]
The treatment of volkhvy in Fifth Edition is fairly brief, but sufficient to design one as a player character.[1]
Past Editions
Volkhvy were introduced in the Fourth Edition supplement, The Dragon and the Bear (DatB). The powers attributed to them were somewhat different than in RoPF[3]. DatB discusses Slavic religious practices in some detail[4].
Fourth Edition volkhvy were considered mystic companion characters, a character type introduced in Hedge Magic.[5]
