Grand Tribunal (convention)

Grand Tribunal is the name of the fan-organized Ars Magica gaming convention.

There was formerly a US Grand Tribunal convention but it has not been held since 2013 and its wiki is no longer online.

History

Grand Tribunal was brought to life by Christian Jensen Romer, Ars Magica author and activist, in 2007 as a RPG-convention entirely dedicated to Ars Magica. It took place in Cheltenham, England. The event was quite a success, and attracted enthusiasts from all over (real) Europe, as well as two authors from the new world. In 2015 Grand Tribunal UK renamed itself Grand Tribunal Europe to reflect the fact that up to 50% of attendees come from outside the British Isles and that we welcome games run in any language.

• 2008, Grand Tribunal was held again, and again was considered a success, attracting not only more activists than in 2007, but also Line Editor David Chart. Furthermore, an equally successful convention, Grand Tribunal California, was organized by Erik Dahl, and took place in California at exactly the same time.

• 2009, Neil Taylor and Sheila Thomas, authors and participants of the other two conventions held in Cheltenham, volunteered to organize Grand Tribunal in 2009, this time as part of a larger RPG-convention that took place in Cambridge, England.

• 2010 saw the UK convention returned to Cheltenham Grand Tribunal in 2010, organised by Christian Jensen Romer.

• 2011 Neil Taylor and Sheila Thomas organized Grand Tribunal in 2011, this time as part of a larger RPG-convention that took place in Cambridge, England. Line Editor David Chart was in attendance.

• 2012 once again saw the UK convention in Cheltenham Grand Tribunal in 2012, organised by Christian Jensen Romer and Andrew Oakley.

• 2013 once again saw the UK convention in Cheltenham Grand Tribunal in 2013 Grand Tribunal in 2013], organised by Christian Jensen Romer and Andrew Oakley.

• 2014 Grand Tribunal UK convention Grand Tribunal in 2014 was held in Cheltenham, England on August 8-10, 2014.

• 2015 once again saw the convention in Cheltenham, UK. Grand Tribunal in 2015, organised by Christian Jensen Romer who rebrands it Grand Tribunal Europe to encourage international participation and reflect the reality of the conventions international character.

• 2016 Grand Tribunal Europe convention was in Cheltenham Grand Tribunal in 2016, organised by Christian Jensen Romer and Andrew Oakley.

• 2017 Grand Tribunal Europe will be in Cheltenham from August 11th to the 13th.
