Welcome to Project: Redcap, a Web site devoted to the tabletop role-playing game Ars Magica. Our goals are to provide a central portal to as much Ars Magica-related material as possible, and to serve as an online encyclopedia of both official and fan-created material.
Project: Redcap is maintained by volunteers from the Ars Magica fan community. It has been continuously active (and growing) since 1994.
We are well along in the process of migrating all the legacy pages from Project: Redcap into the new Wiki. Those legacy pages are still online and available at http://www.redcap.org/index-old.html.
About Ars Magica
Ars Magica is a pen and paper roleplaying game focused on wizards and magic. The game setting, Mythic Europe, is much like historical Europe of the 13th century, but where wizards, dragons, and faeries exist.
While the game is grounded in real history, the magic in Ars Magica is fictitious. The game has nothing to do with purported phenomena, beliefs, or practices related to the occult. It draws instead on modern ideas of fantastic fiction, flavored with some authentic medieval fiction and folklore.

Frequently-Asked Questions
Our unofficial Frequently-Asked Questions page answers many common questions about the rules and setting of the game.
Internet Resources
The founding goal of Project:Redcap is to provide links to as much Ars Magica-related material the on the Web as possible, in as many languages as possible. As the Web is constantly changing, this is a task that will never really be complete, but will require continuing effort and maintenance.
We invite users to contribute to Project:Redcap by adding links to any Ars Magica-related sites they are aware of, regardless of their content or perceived quality.
Official Web Sites
There are only a few official Ars Magica sites, maintained by the game's publisher (currently Atlas Games).
- Ars Magica Fifth Edition
- The current edition of the game. This site includes links to all Fifth-Edition related products, errata, and many free supplements such as character sheets, adventures, and play aids.
- Ars Magica Fourth Edition
- Also hosted by Atlas Games, the Fourth Edition page includes many extras, including a link to a free PDF of the Ars Magica Fourth Edition rule book! It also has links to all the Fourth Edition products, as well as some earlier products.
- the Official Atlas Games Forums
- The forums include both the Ars Magica discussion board and a play-by-forum board for online games.
Community Sites
The following sites welcome contributions from the Ars Magica community and/or provide information on finding players and games, or meeting places to discuss the game.
- The Ars Magica Wiki
- Independent of Project: Redcap, but with similar goals, this Wiki is another valuable community resource.
- Durenmar
- Durenmar is an archive of high-quality articles for Ars Magica, much like an online fanzine. It is currently inactive (last updated 2005) but still online.
- The Net Wizard's Grimoire
- A collection of hundreds of fan-created spells where you can submit your own.
- Projekt: Ars-Magica.net
- A bilingual (English/German) community site
- Project_Redcap:Community_portal
- Our community portal page includes information on mailing lists, discussion boards, conventions, online games, fanzines, and more.
- Sanctum Hermeticum Renewed
- An online fanzine-like archive, currently active, maintained by Niall Christie.
Saga Pages
Many fan sites relate to individual Sagas, which we categorize by Tribunal.
Greater Alps | Hibernia | Iberia | Levant | Loch Leglean | Normandy | Novgorod | Provençal | Rhine | Rome | Stonehenge | Thebes | Transylvania | Alternate Settings
Personal Blogs
Some writers and fans of Ars Magica set up blogs that publish lots of Ars-Magica related content. These include:
- Games from Folktales
- The roleplaying blog of Timothy Ferguson, a frequent contributer to the Ars Magica line. It focuses mainly on converting pieces of folklore to Ars Magica use.
- Metropollgywog
- This is the blog of Matt Ryan, a frequent contributer to the Fifth Edition line. It includes personal and non-Ars Magica related content, but also lots of Ars Magica content.
- The Iron Bound Tome
- The roleplaying blog of "typhoonandrew", a fan, containing mostly various Ars Magica original content.
- House Diedne
- A joint blog of Matt Ryan and Tobias Wheeler, providing fan-fiction and content on House Diedne.
