Because this site is powered by MediaWiki, it can use MediaWiki's templates. Templates are a formatting tool that present specific pieces of information in a consistent way. For example, the often-seen "citation needed" note is a template; so are the reference footnotes we use on this site. Templates can also be larger, like the info boxes describing Ars Magica products, such on The Sundered Eagle: the Theban Tribunal.
Using Templates
Templates can go a long way toward making a Wiki consistent and professional. See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Template for information on using templates in general.
We copy templates liberally from Wikipedia to create a familiar appearance, so also consult Wikipedia for documentation on specific templates.
Custom Templates
I have created a number of custom templates specifically for Project: Redcap. One example is Template: Product description, which is used to create infoboxes on all the product pages.
Category:Project Redcap Custom Templates lists all the custom templates available. If you create one of your own, please add it to this category. Andrew Gronosky (talk) 13:53, 28 December 2015 (MST)
Suggested Templates
We encourage writers and editors to use the following templates, all of which are installed on Project: Redcap.
- Template:About
- Describes the content of a page to differentiate it from other pages. For an example, see Hermes' Portal: the italicized text at the top (beginning "This page is about...") comes from the template.
- Template:Citation needed
- Use this template inline in an article to mark any statement that would benefit from a citation. Citations useful both to substantiate statements and to help players find obscure rules and text.
- Template:Disambiguation
- When there are several articles that potentially match a given topic, use this template to list those possibilities and help the user choose the right one.
- Template:Main
- Use this when there is a longer, main article on a topic that is included as a subtopic of the current article.
- Template:Stub
- Use to mark an article as a "stub." A stub is a very cursory article that is better than nothing, but would benefit from significant expansion.
Installing New Templates
Only a few templates come with MediaWiki when one first installs it. The rest have the be manually imported. Contact me if there is a template you want to use, but is not currently installed. Andrew Gronosky (talk) 13:53, 28 December 2015 (MST)
