Incantation is one of the Unholy Methods of the Malefica, corresponding roughly to a Hermetic Technique. An infernalist combines a Method with a Power to create a spell-like effect.

The Maelifica are Supernatural Abilities. There is a Major Supernatural Virtue called Incantation (RoPI page 86) that grants access to the Ability of the same name.

Although fast, Incantation requires the investment of a confidence point and diabolists using it are hence limited in how many maleficia they can cast, although sin can be used to cast more spells. For more regular casting, the rules for gaining confidence through sin imply gaining at most one Confidence point per season so that diabolists would use this Method only very rarely, perhaps a few times per year. A way around this problem is to use Debauchery Psychomachia meleficia to gain multiple Confidence Points per season, but this would likely carry the risk of botch. Another way around this problem is to use the Goetic Art of Ablating to furnish Confidence Points. Either way, this requires the cooperation of further diabolists or else knowing more Infernal abilities.
