Project Redcap
Recent Developments
Project Redcap is a project launched on September 9, 1994 by Geoff Grabowski to establish a high degree of connectivity between the various World Wide Web sites that offer support for Ars Magica, a roleplaying game currently published by Atlas Games. Project: Redcap was maintained by David Chart from 28 March 1996 to 2005. Andrew Gronosky took over maintainence of the site on 9 December 2005.
Updates
2008-04-02
Egad, over a month since the last update. I have been working behind the scenes on a site re-design, but really it is past time I posted the links people have sent me.
- Added The Wendish Campaign to the Rhine Tribunal, and its House Rules Rules to the appropriate page.
- Updated the Danish page, courtesy of Pelle Kofod
- Added The Fall and Rise of Exeter (a.k.a. the Faroe Saga) to the Stonehenge Tribunal, and its House Rules where they belong.
2008-02-24
- Added Glen Garech Covenant to the Loch Leglean Tribunal page.
- Fixed some broken links
2008-02-18
- Added link to Grand Tribunal 2008 to the page, and to the interactive page for good measure.
- Andrew Gronosky's Ars Magica Page is, finally, working again.
- Removed link to Sagakeeper from interactive page. Sagakeeper was great while it lasted... but it's been dead a long time.
2007-12-15
- Two small updates to the FAQ
2007-11-11
- Very minor FAQ update to correct one URL
- Updated main page and appropriate FAQ entries to feature the new Ars Magica fanzine, Sub Rosa.
2007-11-10
The Redcap is not dead! Just far behind on maintenance. My peronal Ars Magica page is currently down due to a problem with my Internet Service Provider, but it will be back up as soon as they get their act together.
Added:
- Covenant of Reservo Scientia (Iberia)
- Covenant of Mons Obscurus (Stonehenge)
Updated:
- On the Miscellaneous Links page, D20 Ars Magica was updated to point to its new location. Thanks to the maintainer for letting me know.
- Updated the Swedish page, compliments of Michael Geller. (This is another update I've been meaning to add for months, since July 1 in this case).
2007-10-29
Updated the Polish page, thanks to Macko Kowlaski. It should be pointed out that Macko sent me the text back on June 28, but I had technical difficulties with the Polish character set (which uses ISO Latin-2) and did not figure out how to convert it to HTML until months later.
2007-06-23
Updated the text of the main Project: Redcap pages in several languages:
- Catalan, courtesy of Xavier Requejo
- Danish, courtesy of Pelle Kofod
- English
- German, courtesy of Pitt Murmann
- Italian, courtesy of Michele Agostinelli
- Japanese, courtesy of Takashi Miyamoto
- Norwegian, courtesy of Leif Olav Jøsang
- Spanish, also courtesy of Xavier Requejo
- Swedish, courtesy of Michael Geller
Other updates:
- Removed the link-submitting instructions. They were too wordy. Much shorter instructions are now included on the main page.
- Added a link to Eric Pommer's House Rules on the House Rules page. Duh. Thanks to Steve S. for pointing that out.
- Deleted the link to MythicEurope.com from the Miscellaneous page. It no longer contains anything Ars-Magica related, and I'm just as glad, because it was a violation of Atlas Games' trademark. (The policy of Project: Redcap is not to censor anything; if it's about Ars Magica, I'll list it here, but I did point out to the maintainer that he really should have asked Atlas Games' permission to use the name.)
2007-05-26
- Two new Saga links on the Japanese Index page; also, consolidated all the Japanese pages into one for simplicity. Thanks to Takashi Miyomoto.
- Insula Maledictus (Loch Leglean Tribunal) is back online, at a new location. Thanks to the maintainer for re-hosting the site and notifying me.
2007-05-16
- Uploaded a revised Japanese Index page, thanks to Takashi Miyomoto.
- Added a new covenant, Aquae Arcanum, to the French-Language covenants page.
2007-04-14
- We have our second addition to the House Rules page: now my own house rules do not look quite so lonely. Additional submissions would be most welcome. To be clear, even if your site is already listed on Project: Redcap, I would like to put a separate link on the House Rules page (so your site could be listed twice). Just follow the usual submission procedure.
The following pages are now working and are off the endangered list:
- Pax Studiorum (Greater Alps)
- Finn Dúnn (Hibernia)
I notice they are both hosted in the same domain, so probably some intermittent server outage is to blame. Also the URLs seem to have changed slightly (the old links automatically redirected to the new addresses), so I've updated the links to point directly to the new locations.
Thanks to the maintainer for letting me know the sites were still live. They certainly were invisible to me for several days, but they're fine now.
The other members of the endangered list were not so lucky.
- Isle of Innish (Hibernia) - 404. Link deleted.
- Birsay Brough (Loch Leglean) - Server not responding. This counts as "missing in action," not "dead," so I am leaving the link in place a while longer (2 weeks at least).
- Sine Nomine (Loch Leglean) - 404. Link deleted.
- Insula Maledictus (Loch Leglean) - 404. Link deleted.
- Negrath (Loch Leglean) - 404. Link deleted.
- Concilium Caviali (Normady) - 404. Link deleted.
- des Arbes (Provençcal) - 404. Link deleted.
- Strohaus (Rhine) - 404. Link deleted.
- Blackmountain (Stonehenge) - Server not found. Link deleted.
- Northumbria Covenant (Stonehenge) - 404. Link deleted.
- Aqua Tremula (Stonehenge) - Server not found. Link deleted.
- Epithranoi (Thebes) - 403 (access forbidden). I don't know quite what to make of that; probably the maintainer made a mistake and uploaded the page as a read-only file. Since the site has been on the endangered list for over a month and no one has contacted me, I am going to presume it is abandoned and delete the link. If anyone later finds it has returned, please let me know.

2006-10-01
- Obtained (and learned to use) a link-checking program. This should cut down on the number of dead links users find and report. If you still find dead links, by all means let me know, and thank you to everyone who has helped by reporting dead links. As it turns out, the program found no broken links that hadn't already been reported (except for a couple on the "ancient history" page).

I have finally recognised the reality that I don't have time to do updates to Project Redcap. I've been in charge for nearly ten years (omigodhasitreallybeenthatlong), and so it's time for me to move on. It's probably better for the main fan linking site not to be run by the game's line editor, anyway.
I'm handing over the reins to Andrew Gronosky, who has been doing a good job of looking after the FAQ. I wish him well in his new role tramping the roads of Mythic Europe, while I retire to a wealthy covenant and enjoy fine wines. Or something, anyway.
